The Perfect Facial
Those who know me will know that I have an obsession with makeup and skin care, but if I had to pick one, the skin wins. I have always been enamoured with skin care products from a very young age. Probably because I suffered with acne (and scarring) as a teenager and I was always looking for the next miracle product that would give me perfect skin. When I was in high school, salicylic acid and alpha hydroxy acid were the newcomers on the skin care scene. They promised quicker skin cell turnover to reveal the fresher newer skin underneath. The skin care world (and the fountain of youth) would eventually become a real hobby to me. Not just in skin care products, but more so their ingredients. The first thing I do when I hear about a new moisturizer or anti wrinkle cream is look at the ingredient list. I’m the girl who reads a product monograph for fun. Yup, I really do.
What I’m trying to say is, I think I know a lot when it comes to skin products, and have done enough research and learned enough about ingredients over the years to know what works and what doesn’t. What I hadn’t planned on was learning that some of these ingredients (ie retinol) are questionable during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Oh crap. How would I maintain my youthful glow for the next year or so? Would I be setting myself back by taking a break from this stuff? I didn’t have to panic for long.
I quickly discovered the most awesome facial. It’s by Aveda and can be found at any Aveda concept spa. It’s called the “Radiant Resurfacing Facial”. Basically, if you’ve ever had microdermabrasion, this is similar but more gentle. I started going every 6 weeks and gave up all my skin care except face wash and a basic moisturizer. I also continued after the boys were born, it was an excuse to get out of the house and get a little pampered. My skin looked amazing (radiant!), and there was never any down time. This is a facial that I highly recommend, and I guarantee that after a few regular sessions with a qualified aesthetician, you will definitely notice a difference in your skin! If you live in the lower mainland, I have had my facials at Eccotique, and have had a wonderful experience there. Remember this is an exfoliating facial, so if you have sensitive skin, or are currently using products that make your skin more sensitive, please proceed with caution!
