Monday Mantra-Bye Felicia!

Somewhere, out there, is a mom who needs to hear this today. If it’s you, please read. If it’s not, please forward. It’s the beginning of a new week and a chance to get new perspective. If you have been feeling weighed down by ALL.THE.STUFF. You need to read this. I’m sharing with you my affirmation for the week in the hopes that it will help you as much as it helps me. I’m a mom. Of twins. I get it. Mommin’ ain’t easy. Nor should it be. It shouldn’t be easy. But it shouldn’t be hard all the time. How ironic that this is my affirmation for the week after I have spent much of December and January focusing on more minimalism in my life, in every way.

“I LET GO OF THINGS THAT ARE NO LONGER USEFUL” (also known as, I say no to what doesn’t serve me).

Feel this kind of bliss when you let go of what doesn’t serve you.

Once you give birth to your baby, you also give birth to a mother. Weird huh? By having a baby, you instantly create another version of you. As a mom. It’s all new. Suddenly there’s you-the mom, your baby, and the old you. You must juggle them all.

Circumstances change. People change. What you need and want… CHANGES. Sometimes we try to hold on to the same life but it can’t possibly ever be exactly the same. Nor should it be or it means you are stagnant in a moving environment and this causes friction.

Repeat this affirmation to yourself and think about all the things in your life- whether they are people, material items, ideas, situations- whatever it may be- that are no longer serving a purpose. That are no longer useful. That are just taking up space. That are stressing you out and withdrawing from your emotional account without depositing anything EVER. Is there a friend who suddenly seems like more of a burden than a boost? You have a baby to take care of. Bye Felicia.

A job that suddenly doesn’t provide you any fulfillment? You are more than your work-nothing like saying “adios muchachos!” to your boss to light a fire under your own ass and kill it doing something else!

Extra crap in your house contributing to the mental clutter? Is there anything better than taking things you never wear or use out of the house in garbage bags to donate to someone who needs them? It is a magical feeling!

These are just examples of course-I mention them because it took my dad dying for me to take stock of my life and actually let go of these exact things. I have few regrets in life-one of them is not realizing this sooner. It is ok to say no. It is ok to let things go. When you have kids, you MUST make room for everything they come with, and you must make room for the new you, in addition to holding onto your old self.

This week I challenge you to think about one thing that is just taking time and energy or mental space- and let it go to make room for better things.

I have realized if it doesn’t bring me value- it has to go. And if I make the right choices and follow my heart- I never miss it. I really don’t. Free yourself from all of it. Life is too short to hold on to anything other than what serves a purpose for you.

Make room in your life for all the things that come with having a baby, becoming a mother, and living a life full of everything that brings you joy. “I let go of things that are no longer useful”. You can have an amazing life as a mom, but you must make room for the amazing. Say NO. And let it go.
